Isaac specialises in trusts, relationship property, South Pacific law, electoral law, public law and sports disputes. He appears in Court and tribunals throughout New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, including as lead counsel in the Privy Council. He also appears in domestic and international arbitrations, and is one of the few counsel to have extensive experience in electoral petitions. He is also a permanently admitted member of the Cook Islands bar.
Isaac is recommended in Chambers and the Asia Pacific Legal 500.
Isaac is also a member of the NZLS Rule of Law Committee, as well as being a regular presenter to other lawyers on litigation matters. He is a passionate supporter of the arts, Deputy Chair of the Royal New Zealand Ballet and a director of the Auckland Theatre Company.
Michael acts in complex commercial cases at all levels of the New Zealand Court system and in arbitrations. He is known for his ability to manage large and complex litigation, and acts in the largest cases presently before the New Zealand High Court.
Michael has acted on numerous matters involving urgent interim relief, including obtaining search and freezing orders in a range of intellectual property and privacy cases.
His practice includes product liability and construction matters, trust disputes, shareholder disputes, and general contract and commercial disputes in the district and High Courts. He has particular expertise in insolvency and maritime disputes.
