New Zealand Relationship Property Survey Released

The New Zealand Relationship Property Survey 2019 has been released by Grant Thornton and the New Zealand Law Society’s Family Law Section: https://www.grantthornton.co.nz/globalassets/1.-member-firms/new-zealand/pdfs/gtnz-nzls-rp-2019-web.pdf. Key findings from the survey include that there is a continued rise of s 21(‘pre nup’) agreements;  that the ‘danger zone’ for relationships (ie those relationships most commonly advised on) are people in their forties, who have been together for 10 to 19 years, and who have a net worth of between $500k to $1million;  and that economic disparity claims under s 15 of the Property (Relationships) Act 1976 remain a difficult area for practitioners.
